Mark your calendars! Salmon Unlimited of Illinois will be holding its 4th annual Open salmon fishing tournament on August 21st, 2010 at Northpoint Marina in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois. This tournament is open to everyone; you do not need to be a member of Salmon Unlimited to enter. As in previous years, 85% of the entry fees will be returned as prizes, with 15% going to the Salmon Unlimited Conservation Trust, to help maintain the world-class angling opportunities we all enjoy. So come on out and help support our great salmon fishery.
This year, we are making some changes to make the tournament better. This year’s event will feature one, “Open” division, with a “catch 15, weigh your best 10” format. In addition to cash prizes for the top ten finishers, we will again have a $1000 bounty on the biggest fish weighed in. New for this year, will be $250 bonus prizes for the biggest fish of each of the other species, too. Finally, we’ve added a $250 prize for the highest placing “small boat” (24’ and under). As usual, there will be many other tackle prizes and each boat will receive a captain’s bag filled with goodies.

Online registration is secured by PayPal and will include a nominal processing charge ($4.00). Online registration will only be available thru August 15th, 2010. You can also register by mail by printing the Rules and Registration Form and mailing it, along with your entry fee, to the address on the form. Please allow sufficient time for it to be delivered before August 15th, 2010. A mandatory captain’s meeting will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, August 20th, 2010 at the Northpoint Marina administration building. Late registrations will be accepted at the captain’s meeting; however, the $20 discount and free slip will not be available.
Last year’s tournament drew a field of 49 entries; 10 in the Pro division and 39 on the Amateur side. The weigh-in was held at the Northpoint marina fish cleaning station. Once the spray settled and the points were totaled, the winners were: |
